Lieberman and Netanyahu
Lieberman and Netanyahu Flash 90

The Pillar of Defense counter-terror operation in Gaza and subsequent ceasefire with Hamas did not hurt Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu in the polls, according to a survey conducted by Maagar Mohot for Maariv/nrg.

The poll found that the Likud Beyteinu party, formed recently in a merger between Netanyahu’s Likud and Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman’s Yisrael Beyteinu, is still in the lead with 37 seats.

The political right remains on course to get a solid Knesset majority of 70 seats.

Netanyahu has been criticized for many for agreeing to a ceasefire. Many Israelis called for a larger-scale operation targeting Hamas, which during Pillar of Defense fired missiles on central Israel and the Jerusalem area as well as southern Israel.

Lieberman defended the decision to end the operation, saying, “Power is not only about hitting, but also about holding back.”
